HILL COUNTRY

The middle of the country heaves up into the greenest and misty hills you can think of. Highly manicured tea plantations, our British colonial inheritance, contrasts dramatically with the natural wet tropical jungle, primarily in the highest peaks, deepest ridges and the eerily misty planes with its wind twisted vegetation. The endemic plants, the giant ferns, brilliant wild flowers, birds, dragonflies, large and small mammals (we will not mention reptiles!) all combine to make Sri Lanka’s hill country a core feature of paradise.

This is also the land of the famously scenic train rides which is becoming a pilgrimage to all travelers to Asia. But there is much more hidden in these hills – trails that take you to virgin jungle, caves behind waterfalls, tumbling clear waters, mountain peaks venerated as sacred as all nature should be…there is something for everyone, from hardcore rock climbing and trekking in dramatic landscapes to the gentle strolls surrounded by delicate nature.
